How to compare cheap flight tickets in 4 steps
Compare flight dates, baggage, connections and fare conditions to understand the total cost of a cheap air ticket.
1. Compare nearby dates
Try a few departure dates and, for return trips, vary the return date too. Keep passenger counts, cabin class and trip type the same when comparing fares. Search your actual travel dates instead of assuming that one day of the week is always cheapest.
2. Include the bags you need
Check whether the lowest displayed fare includes the checked baggage you plan to bring. Add any optional baggage or seat charges before comparing totals. A fare that suits a short cabin-bag trip may be less suitable for a longer stay with more luggage.
3. Budget for connections
A lower fare can come with a longer connection. Include possible meals, accommodation or airport transfers in your overall budget. If you book separate tickets, check what happens to the onward booking if the first flight is delayed.
4. Review the conditions before payment
The lowest price may not be the best fit for your plans. Check date changes, refunds, fees and passenger details. Search prices can change with availability, so make your decision using the confirmed total shown before payment.
