Flight baggage rules: what to check before booking
Check cabin bags, checked baggage, extra charges and connection arrangements before buying an air ticket.
Check cabin and checked bags separately
Tickets do not all include the same allowance. Check bag counts, weights and dimensions for your airline, route and selected fare. Do not assume a single weight figure covers both cabin and checked baggage.
List what you plan to bring
Before searching, decide how many suitcases and cabin bags you need. Compare fares that meet those needs. If extra baggage is required, confirm its price and purchase deadline with the airline.
Review every connecting flight
For a journey with several flights, review the baggage terms for every part and ask whether your bags will be checked through. On separate tickets, allow time to collect and recheck bags where required.
Read the official packing rules
For power banks, batteries, liquids and special items, consult the current airline and airport rules before packing. Keep your ticket, baggage allowance details and any extra-baggage receipts with your travel documents.
